Gerry Goldberg's Second A2 Repair Journal

So close to being completed!
I took a bit of break from this scooter during the past two months. Colorado received a tremendous amount of snow this year which created muddy conditions in my alley. I had no real way to ride the scooter without it becoming filthy.
We finally had a break, and I was able to test out the cables and carburetor adjustments.
Let me first say, this scooter is as near to new as it could get. I was excited at how it might ride. I was equally concerned about the new gear that I had trouble with back in April 2006. Wow, a year ago! Anyway, the time had come to ride the machine.
The Tourist started without trouble. But, the cabling was far out of adjustment. This was expected. Gear adjustments are the main trouble with Heinkels. I believe you can adjust the cables to achieve a nice shifting scooter, but it takes plenty of time to do so. One day I'll write an article about it.
I spent the next 30 minutes or so riding the scooter around the block, and heading back to the garage to loosen one cable, and tighten the other. Finally, I found the sweet spot!
For the next hour I rode Gerry's scooter, displaying this fine 45 year-old machine to the Colorado Springs residents that happened to notice it. Most had no clue about what they saw or the work that went into the project.
Many people pointed, and a few offered the "beautiful scooter" comment. I enjoyed all of the praise. I am sure Gerry will be equally as proud.
