Gerry Goldberg's A2 Repair Journal

Gerry Goldberg brought his A2 to me prior to Mile High Mayhem: Super Happy Fun Rally #7. I was promoting MHM as an Odd Scoot event. My involvement here was strictly to add Odd Scoot color to a traditionally Italian event! Gerry was my only supporter and wanted to have a running Heinkel at the rally.
Gerry initial comments to me were "Basically, it needs some new cables. It starts fine, but has some oil leaks." Gerry brought the A2 to me on Friday, June 11th.
Gerry's A2 was very solid. It started and idled very well. The problem (we knew about) was a shifting issue. I quickly noticed that the gear arm was broken. Later that night, I created the first parts list.
Gerry wanted the scooter to run reliably, plus he wanted it to look good. I convinced him not to restore this bike, because it needed a few exterior pieces that would be tricky to locate in the USA. I felt it would be better to make this operational, and when the parts are located, we could pursue paint.
The first parts request was sent to HCD on June 15, 2004.
