Gerry Goldberg's A2 Repair Journal

I hate reporting bad news. Today I disassembled the engine and did a lot of cleaning. The grease, grime and dirt did a wonderful job hiding a world of problems on this engine.

Gerry's broken studs.

The engine cases had several broken studs. Each were repaired in their own way. One was fitted with an oversized bolt. Another was fitted with a longer stud fed in from the opposite side. Sadly all of these butcher jobs held the cases together, but did not prevent leaking of oil. The previous repair person attempted to stop all leaks by squirting silicone on the problem areas.

Gerry's broken case.

The flywheel cover engine housing was completely broken. Again, it was held in place by a substantial amount of silicone. I just don't understand how people can be such animals with these little machines.

Thankfully, all of these parts are available from HCD.
